The Call to Prosperity

It all started in 2002.

I was teaching Bible at a Christian school in Lake Worth, Florida. A former roommate of mine was trying to convince me to join him in Hawaii. As a single guy with wide open options, I thought, "Why not?" So, I applied to a few schools on the islands, and there was some interest.

I decided to swing by a Barnes & Noble to get a few books on life in Hawaii. As I was making my way to the travel section, a man walked up to me and handed me the book, Retire Young, Retire Rich.

He simply said, “You should read this.”

It was odd.

Why would I read a book on retirement? I was only 24 years old. But the man just stood there. So, I opened the book and started reading. I was amazed. It was my first time reading a financial paragraph that made sense.

I looked up to thank the guy, but … he was gone.

There are moments in life, I believe, when God directly intervenes. This was one of those moments for me. That book, that moment, changed my life.

The following week I enrolled to get my MBA at Palm Beach Atlantic University (which I earned within two years while working full time), the next month I bought a home (and rented out two of the rooms, covering all my costs), and I started dating my girlfriend a bit more serious (now my wife of 20+ years and the mother of our four children).

I soon landed a career at Newsmax Media, a budding company at the time. Over the course of 10 years, I helped them become the media giant they are today. I was then recruited to be the CEO of a financial research company where my team and I spent 10 years helping over 500,000 Americans reach their financial goals.

How?

We simply showed our members what investments we were making before we made them … and if people wanted to follow our lead, they could, for a small fee.

To be clear, this wasn’t day trading or anything like that. We simply invested in great companies at good prices and reaped the rewards for years and years.

It was a win-win.

For example, Governor Mike Huckabee was one such member. He said our insight was, “already helping 100,000 Americans go from confusion, fear, and frustration with their investments, to clarity, peace, and success.”

(Governor Huckabee was also kind enough to review early copies of Called to Prosperity for me. As a former pastor, a man of influence, and a person who benefited from my insight, it was great to get his feedback, and I am forever grateful for his input!)

Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska, is another example. She raved about our insight, saying, “I love it, it’s exactly what I needed,” and went on to comment, “I made bigger gains in two weeks than I made in the last two years.”

I even worked, met, or teamed up with experts like Steve Forbes, President Donald Trump, and one of my heroes, Dave Ramsey. Here’s a picture we took when Dave came to speak at one of my financial conferences.

Word got around about our unique, yet successful, insight, and members of all these firms 4 have paid me and my team handsomely for our financial recommendations.

But our main goal was to help hundreds of thousands of Main Street Americans, and I am proud to say that we did that very well.

Robert, Samantha, and Tom are exceptional examples of people who once sat in your exact seat… they heard from me, or perhaps one of my team members, and decided to use our investment insight.

Personally, I’ve been able to make some incredible investments that have yielded some incredible profits. Overall, my investments have made millions of dollars.

I share this not to impress you but rather to impress upon you the blessings God will pour out when you listen, and I mean really listen, to what the Bible actually says about money.

How to give it through tithes and offerings.

How to gain it through purposeful work.

And how to grow it through sound investments.

And as great as it is to see these profits flowing into my bank account, it’s even more exciting to see the money flowing out of my bank account as an extension of God’s hands … to feed the hungry, heal the sick, and spread the gospel.

I want the same for you. I want you to see what it’s like to pen a check for $10,000, then $100,000, and even more … and watch what God does with it. I can tell you from experience, it’s a great feeling.

Last year, once again, God intervened.

It happened when I stumbled upon this chart derived from Cambridge University.

Clearly, Christians are not following the Biblical guidelines found inside the Bible. Data shows that a mere 5% of us tithe.

I felt called to do something about this alarming statistic.

So, as the CEO of my company… a company making millions of dollars in profits selling financial insight… I approached my board to propose creating a product to help Christians increase their wealth.

“It’s an exciting idea, Aaron.” They said, “But Christians, as you just pointed out, don’t have a lot of money. We don’t know if it is a viable business.”

I tried to persuade them for a bit, but I was getting nowhere. There simply wasn’t enough money in it … for them.

But could I start my own company to help millions of Christians increase their wealth?

As a former Bible teacher who had made millions of dollars through leading two companies, grown his investments by millions more through sound investments, and given over a million dollars to his church, could I venture out on my own?

Yes. I could. It was time to do what God perhaps prophesied over me long ago.

It was time to retire young, retire rich.

Not so that I could sit on my laurels and watch TV all day. But it was time to retire from one calling so that I could accept a higher calling … the calling to start my own business that would show millions of Christians what the Bible actually says about money.

A few days later (after talking with my wife), I handed in my resignation. I helped the board find a new leader, and at the age of 45, I retired.

Over the last year, I’ve spent countless hours researching what the Bible says about money. And the more I research, the more I realize the Bible has a lot to say about money and God’s desire for His people to be prosperous. And not just a little prosperous. Abundantly prosperous!

Maybe we aren’t all called to be millionaire entrepreneurs, but we are all called to prosperity: to increase our ability to give, gain, and grow our wealth for God’s Kingdom.

Give: 
We are ALL called to give through tithes and offerings. As I explain in my book, if God can get money THROUGH you, he will get it TO you (and there will be plenty left for you). God says, “Test me in this and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it” [Malachi 3:10]
